Currently there are three established sources of e-identification approved by the authorities and available to you as a private individual: BankID from the banks, AB Svenska Pass on the Tax Agency ID card, and Freja eID+ in a Verisec app.
BankID is the most popular e-identification in Sweden. AB Svenska Pass and Freja eID+ have been reviewed by the Swedish E-identification Board and received the government stamp of approval ‘Svensk e-legitimation’.
Types of e-identification
Here is additional information about the types of e-identification that are available, along with the three available sources.
E-identification on a smartphone or tablet
E-identification on a smartphone or tablet is part of an app. You verify your identity by means of a password, fingerprint or face recognition.
Physical e-identification is typically a plastic smart card with a chip. You need a separate card reader or similar device to verify your identity.
E-identification on a computer
You can download e-identification to computer software. You need a password to verify your identity.
