Obtain an e-identification
In order to obtain a Swedish e-identification you're required to have a Swedish personal identification number or in some cases a Swedish co-ordination number. Some of the e-identifications also requires that you are registered in the Swedish population register. Below you'll find more information about the different e-identifications and their requirements.
Currently there are three established providers of e-identification available to you as a private individual: BankID, AB Svenska Pass, and Freja eID Plus .
All three e-identification providers have been reviewed and received the government stamp of approval ‘Svensk e-legitimation’.
These are the e-identifications you can obtain
- BankID (issued by the banks)
- Freja eID Plus (issued in an app provided by Freja eID Group AB)
- AB Svenska Pass (issued on the Tax Agency's ID card).

If you need assistance in how to use your e-identification, if you've forgotten your password or if it's not functioning, you have to contact the e-identification provider who issued your e-identification.
E-identification available to you as a private individual
BankID
There are three types of BankID that you can order from your bank: (H4)
- an app on your smartphone or tablet (mobile BankID)
- a physical smart card (BankID on a card)
- computer software (BankID on a file)
Requirements
You must have an account at one of the participating banks. Age limits vary but you always need parental approval if you are under 18. You will have to get a separate card reader for BankID on a card.

Freja eID Plus
You can obtain Freja eID Plus by downloading the app to your smartphone or tablet and going to a participating ATG service centre to activate it at the plus level.
Requirements
You're required to have a Swedish personal identification number or a Swedish co-ordination number In order to obtain a Freja eId Plus. You must also be entered in the Swedish population register and able to verify your identity. Parental approval is required if you are under 18.

AB Svenska Pass
E-identification by AB Svenska Pass is issued on a physical ID card that you can apply for from the Tax Agency. Visit one of the agency’s service centres to pick it up. You will need a separate card reader. A fee will be charged by the Tax Agency.
Requirements
You must be entered in the Swedish population register, at least 13 years old and able to verify your identity. Parental approval is required if you are under 18.

Types of e-identification

E-identification on a smartphone or tablet
E-identification on a smartphone or tablet is part of an app. You verify your identity by means of a password, fingerprint or face recognition.
Physical e-identification
Physical e-identification is typically a plastic smart card with a chip. You need a separate card reader or similar device to verify your identity.
E-identification on a computer
You can download e-identification to computer software. You need a password to verify your identity.
